Goedeke's career night not enough as Pointers fall to Hope, 68-56

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Zack Goedeke (Valders, WI/Valders) came off the bench and scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down a team and career-high eight rebounds but it was not enough as the No. 9 ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team fell to No. 16 Hope College 68-56 on Saturday evening on Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Hope held the Pointers to just 18-of-47 shooting on the evening (.383) and the Flying Dutchmen held a 40-25 advantage in rebounding, securing the lead from start to finish. Hope also forced 11 UWSP turnovers on the evening.

The visiting Flying Dutchmen built a 10-point advantage (15-5) midway through the game's opening half. The Pointers chipped away at the Dutchmen lead, pulling within four, 30-26, with 1:11 remaining in the opening stanza.

In the second half, Hope again extended its lead, going in front by as many as 16, 49-33, with 13:25 remaining.

The Pointers cut the deficit to single digits, 59-50, with 4:42 remaining, but Hope closed the half on a 10-6 run to earn the 12-point victory.

Ben Gardner led the way for the visitors, shooting a perfect six-for-six from the charity stripe to lead all scorers with 18 points. Brock Benson and Alex Eidson also scored in double figures, adding 13 and 10, respectively.

Sean McGann (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) added 15 points to the Pointers scoring efforts on the evening and Stephen Pelkofer (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) chipped in with eight and a team-high four assists.

UWSP (2-1) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 24 hosting St. Norbert College on Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse.
