Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Biagini's late goal not enough in 2-1 loss to UW-Superior

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - A late Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) goal wasn't enough to spark a comeback for the ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team as they fell 2-1 to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Superior on Friday night at Ice Hawks Arena.

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point more than doubled up UW-Superior in shots by a 38-16 margin but managed just one goal late in the third period, while the two goals proved enough for the Yellowjackets. The Yellowjackets improve to 4-3-2 (1-1-1 WIAC) with the win, while the Pointers drop to 5-2-0 (1-2-0 WIAC) with the loss.

Leah Elledge and Hailey Adaire scored less than three minutes apart midway through the second period to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead. After two periods of play, Yellowjackets' goalie Natasha Singer faced 30 shots but kept the Pointers off the scoreboard.

Biagini got the Pointers on the board with 3:55 remaining in the third period with her fourth goal of the season off an assist by Betsy Anderson (Farmington, MN/Farmington). The Pointers were unable to score again with the extra attacker in the last minute of regulation as they tried to tie the game up and force overtime.

The Pointers look to get back to their winning ways as they finish up the two-game series with UW-Superior tomorrow Nov. 21 at Ice Haws Arena. The puck is set to drop at 2:30 p.m.
