Women's hockey skates to 2-2 tie with Yellowjackets

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) had a goal and an assist as the No. 9 UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team tied UW-Superior 2-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.

UW-Superior (4-3-3, 1-1-2 WIAC) scored twice in a 37-second span in the final two minutes of the second period to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead. Punnett then scored her first goal of the season midway through the third period to level it at 2-2 for UW-Stevens Point (5-2-1, 1-2-1 WIAC).

After the tying goal, the Pointers pushed for a late game-winning goal but could not find one. UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Superior 14-5 in the third period and overtime. Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) had a chance in the dying seconds of overtime but her wraparound shot was saved by Natasha Singer.

Singer made 33 saves in the tie for UW-Superior, while Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) stopped 20 shots for UW-Stevens Point.

Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) scored her fifth goal of the season and second in as many days at 5:25 of the second period to open the scoring, off a feed from Punnett on the power play. However, the Yellowjackets replied with two quick goals from Karen Larson and Leah Elledge on the power play at 18:23 and 19:00 of the second period.

UW-Stevens Point heads east to face the top-two teams in the country, Plattsburgh State and Middlebury, on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 28-29. The Pointers face Plattsburgh State at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday and Middlebury at 4 p.m. EST on Sunday.
