Roland scores career-high 17 in win over No. 9 WashU

CHICAGO, Ill. – Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) scored a career-high 17 points off the bench to spark the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team to a 61-57 win over No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis on Friday evening at the Chicago/WashU Classic at Ratner Center.

Roland shot 8-for-12 from the field to eclipse her previous career-high of 13 points and also added four rebounds and three assists for UW-Stevens Point (2-0). The win improved the Pointers to 3-0 all-time against the Bears (1-1), a perennial top-25 team.
 
UW-Stevens Point trailed WashU 45-40 with 4:11 remaining in the third quarter but scored the final 10 points of the quarter to take a five-point lead into the fourth. Lexi Roland (New London, WI/New London) keyed the run with two three-pointers and the Bears missed their final seven shots of the frame.
 
A three-pointer by Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) early in the fourth gave the Pointers an eight-point advantage but WashU came right back with a 7-0 run to get within one. UW-Stevens Point then scored the game's next six points to reclaim a seven-point lead at 59-52 with 3:57 remaining.
 
The Bears trimmed the deficit to two, 59-57, with 45 seconds remaining but Autumn Hennes (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) made a layup with 12 seconds to go to give the Pointers a four-point edge. UW-Stevens Point held WashU to eight field goals and 24.2 percent shooting in the second half.
 
Allie Miceli (Marseilles, IL/Ottawa Township) registered her fourth-career double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, scoring all 13 of her points in the opening half. Hennes made it three double-digit scorers for UWSP on the night with 14 points on 7-for-14 shooting.
 
The Pointers shot 53.9 percent in the second half to finish at 46.4 percent for the game. UW-Stevens Point outscored WashU 36-20 in the paint and 27-17 in bench points, while the Bears held a 29-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
Amanda Martinez led three WashU players in double figures with 14 points. Katybeth Biewen added 11 points, six assists and five steals, while Ereka Hunt hit four three-pointers off the bench for 12 points.
 
The Bears started the game quickly, racing out to a 14-2 lead in the first 4:10 of play after making five of their first six shots. WashU led 21-13 after the first quarter and led 26-20 before a 9-0 run gave the Pointers their first lead of the game inside the final three minutes of the first half.
 
UW-Stevens Point completes its showing at the Chicago/WashU Classic by taking on host University of Chicago at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. The Maroons defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 76-67 in Friday night's second game.
