STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sixth-ranked UW-River Falls handed the 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team its first loss of the season as the Pointers fell 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.
Box ScoreChloe Kinsel and Carly Moran each scored twice for UW-River Falls (3-2-0, 1-1-0 WIAC), which scored twice in the final two minutes of the game to pull away.
Hailey Rock (Hammond, WI/Central) scored her third goal of the season in the loss for UW-Stevens Point (5-1-0, 1-1-0 WIAC).
Trailing 2-0 after two periods, Rock got the Pointers on the board on the power play at 14:24 of the third period off an assist by
Betsy Anderson (Farmington, MN/Farmington). However, Kinsel and Moran each scored for the second time on the afternoon in the final 1:17 of the game to seal the UWRF victory.
After Lydia Wagner opened the scoring late in the first period, the game remained 1-0 until Kinsel scored her first goal of the game at 5:37 of the second to double the UW-River Falls lead. The Falcons made it 3-0 early in the third when Moran scored her first of the game at 2:37.
The Falcons outshot the Pointers 35-27 in the game. Angie Hall made 26 saves in the win for UWRF, while
Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) stopped 30 Falcon shots for UW-Stevnes Point.
The Pointers are back in action for a two-game series hosting UW-Superior. The first game is set to start at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at Ice Hawks Arena.
