Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Reynard, Lester power Pointers past Falcons, 2-1

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point women's hockey opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 2-1 win over No. 6 UW-River Falls on Friday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point took advantage of the three power plays it had, going 1-for-3, which proved to be the difference maker in the contest. UW-River Falls was unable to capitalize with the extra skater, going 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

With the win, UW-Stevens Point extends its winning streak to five to start the season 5-0-0 (1-0-0 WIAC), while UW-River Falls drops to 2-2-0 (0-1-0 WIAC) with the loss.

Senior forward Reynard scored her first goal of the season at the tail end of the first period at 15:33, after a Falcons' tripping foul put the Pointers on a power play. Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and Shauna Bollinger (Menomonie, WI/Menomonie) assisted the goal.

The Falcons' Jessie Anderson put UW-River Falls on the scoreboard at the end of the second period, knotting the game at 1-1 with just under a minute remaining.

Both goalies stifled the opponents' offensive attacks in the third period, but it was the Pointers who came out on top. Lester, the Pointers' leading scorer, found the back of the net 4:40 into the third, netting her fifth goal of the season.

Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) earned her third win on the season stopping 24 shots, seven in the third, to preserve the one-goal victory.

UWSP looks to continue its hot streak Saturday (Nov. 14) when it wraps up the two-game series with UW-River Falls. Action at Ice Hawks Arena faces off at 2:30 p.m.
