Milosek, power play push Pointers past Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) recorded his first-career shutout to lead the No. 2 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 5-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead Friday evening at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Eliot Grauer (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) opened the scoring for the Pointers, netting his third goal of the season 14:15 into the first on the power play. Grauer's goal was the eighth Pointer power-play goal of the season

With time ticking down in the first period, Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) forced a turnover in the neutral zone and scored his fifth goal of the season unassisted with just five seconds remaining, giving the Pointers a two-goal leading heading into the first intermission.

Just 4:15 into the second frame, Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) scored his fifth goal of the season on a back-handed shot to increase the Pointers lead to three. Kalisz's goal was assisted by Drew Graves (Allen Park, MI/Allen Park ) and Nick D'Avolio (North Riverside, IL), who both recorded their second points of the season.

UWSP kept the pressure on the Cobbers (3-2-0) in the second period. Kalisz netted his second goal of the night off a Drew Graves (Allen Park, MI/Allen Park ) assist with 2:51 remaining in the second. Just 1:40 later, Sharkey scored his second of the night, netting UWSP's second power-play goal of the night, giving the Pointers a 5-0 lead heading into the final period of play.

The Pointers added two power-play goals to their season total against the Cobbers and have gone 9-for-28 (.320) on the man advantage through five games.

Sophomore goaltender Milosek made 23 saves in his first-career shutout, making 11 saves in the second period alone.

The Pointers finish the weekend by taking on Saint John's University on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
