STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Oshkosh scored three second-half goals to defeat the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team 3-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match on Tuesday afternoon at Point Soccer Bowl.
Box Score UW-Oshkosh (8-2-0, 3-0-0 WIAC) broke a scoreless game open with three goals in less than 10 minutes midway through the second half against UW-Stevens Point (2-12-0, 0-3-0 WIAC). The Titans were receiving votes in this week's national rankings.
Christina Mauthe opened the scoring for the Titans at 62:46, cutting in from the left wing and firing a shot that found the back of the net via a deflection. Just 2:53 later, Robyn Elliott made it 2-0 with a left-footed shot from inside the penalty spot that found the lower-left corner off an assist by Ally Vanderberg.
At 71:30, UW-Oshkosh added a third courtesy of Courtney Leister, who got on the end of a cross by Felicia Retrum from the left at the far post. The Titans outshot the Pointers 25-10, including an 18-8 advantage after halftime.
Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) made six saves in 78:59 for UWSP before being replaced by
Mackenzie Madison (Roseville, MN/Roseville), who stopped two shots in 11:01. Nina Muzi earned the shutout for UW-Oshkosh by making six saves.
Kayla Huber (Wausau, WI/D.C. Everest) led UW-Stevens Point with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Emily Dietrich (Franklin, WI/Muskego) got one of her two shots on frame for the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 at UW-Platteville at 6:15 p.m.
