Platteville, WI – Earning their first conference win, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team defeated UW-Platteville 3-1 on the road in Platteville on Saturday night.
Box Score The Pointers registered 21 shots, which included
Elise Thuot (Hatley, WI/D.C. Everest) and
Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran)'s first goal of the season, and
Jillian Ross (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee)' second.
With the win, the Pointers improve to 3-12 (1-3 WIAC), while the Pioneers move to 2-9 (0-4 WIAC) with the loss.
Just before the first half ended, Ross put the Pointers on the scoreboard first, scoring from the top of the 18-yard box into the upper corner of the goal at the 40:45 mark.
UW-Platteville's Yamilex Jaramillo snuck a ball in past UW-Stevens Point's goalie, Kirsten Churkey, to tie the game 1-1. Churkey tried clearing the ball but Jaramillo took advantage of the clutter in front of Churkey.
Within an 11-minute span, the Pointers added two goals, Thuot's via a penalty kick to put the Pointers ahead, and Bohnert's to secure the win.
UW-Stevens Point is back in action, Saturday, Oct. 17 as they host UW-Eau Claire at the Point Soccer Bowl. Game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
