Dietrich scores in loss at Concordia-Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Emily Dietrich (Franklin, WI/Muskego) scored her first goal of the season but a pair of first-half goals by Concordia-Moorhead helped the Cobbers top the women's soccer team 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Concordia-Moorhead (6-5) opened the scoring nine minutes into the game when Paige McCullough found Sadie Hayes for her second goal of the season. Later in the half, Emily Wendorff scored for the sixth time this season at 31:25 to double the Cobbers' lead.
 
Less than two minutes after Wendorff's goal, Dietrich scored to halve the deficit for UW-Stevens Point (2-11). Dietrich and Ross had shots on target in the final 12 minutes as the Pointers looked for a tying goal but both shots were saved by Elizabeth Bitzan.
 
Concordia-Moorhead held a 16-9 advantage in shots in the game, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Dietrich had five of UW-Stevens Point's nine shots and three of the five on target.
 
Bitzan made four saves for the Cobbers, while Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) made five stops for the Pointers.
 
UW-Stevens Point returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play by hosting UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. at Point Soccer Bowl.
