Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lone Blugolds' goal sinks women's soccer

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - A long-distance goal was the difference for the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team as they dropped a 1-0 game against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl.

Box Score

The Blugolds improve to 4-7-3 (3-2-0 WIAC) with the win, while the Pointers move to 3-13-0 (1-4-0 WIAC) with the loss.

Pointers' goalie, Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) drifted as far back as she could to protect her goal, but Blugolds' Tara Dennehy found the back of the net in the upper left hand goal, from 40 yards out. The goal came at the 56-minute mark and that's all the Blugolds needed for the win.

The Pointers had a one-on-one opportunity to score in the second half but Kayla Huber (Wausau, WI/D.C. Everest)'s shot was denied as Bluegold goal keeper Sammie Lefaive made the save.

Seniors Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest), Jillian Ross (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee), Sarah Meylor (Watertown, WI/Watertown), and Emily Dietrich (Franklin, WI/Muskego) will play their final regular season home match against non-conference opponent Viterbo on Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
