STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Jordan Lutz (Amherst, WI/Amherst) scored a career-high 17 points and the No. 19-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team never trailed in a 74-55 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory over UW-Platteville on Wednesday evening at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Box Score

Lutz shot 6-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-8 from behind the arc, on his way to topping his previous career-best 15 points set on Dec. 13 at Lawrence. UW-Stevens Point (10-3, 4-0 WIAC) over 50 percent for the seventh time this season, finishing at 56.0 percent for the game.

The win was the 16th in the last 21 meetings with UW-Platteville (10-4, 3-2 WIAC) for the Pointers. UWSP has won eight of the last 10 games between the two schools, dating back to 2012.

Lutz scored eight of his 17 points in the first 2:15 of the second half to help UW-Stevens Point establish a 20-point lead at 43-23. After opening the half with a layup, the senior nailed back-to-back threes, as the Pointers made their first six shots in the second half.

UWSP led by as many as 24 midway through the second half and was up by at least 18 points until the final 2:25. Boston Johnson scored five of his team-high 17 points in a 36-second span to get UW-Platteville within 15, 68-53, with 1:49 to go but that was as close as the visitors would get.

UW-Stevens Point shot 63.0 percent (17-for-27) in the second half after shooting 47.8 percent (11-for-23) in the opening 20 minutes. The Pointers made four threes in each half, finishing 8-for-15 (53.3 percent) from three-point range in the game.

In addition to Lutz's 17 points, Alex Richard (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) shot 6-for-8 from the field and 3-for-5 from the free-throw line on his way to 15 points. Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) chipped in with 10 points and a season-high seven assists.

UW-Stevens Point held a 13-5 advantage in points off turnovers and an 18-7 edge in bench points. Zack Goedeke (Valders, WI/Valders) scored the first points of his UWSP career in the closing minutes and contributed six points and four rebounds.

Leading 12-10 in the first half, the Pointers went on an 11-2 run to stretch the lead to 11 with 8:29 left in the first half. The Pioneers held UWSP scoreless for the next four and a half minutes as part of a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to four. However, UW-Stevens Point allowed just two points in the final 5:29 of the half to take a 33-21 lead into the break.

UW-Platteville shot 41.2 percent in the game but shot 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from behind the arc, including five second-half threes. Jim Stocki and Jake Manning each added 10 points to Johnson's 17 for the visitors.
