Men's basketball shoots season-best 68 percent in win at UW-Oshkosh

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Four players scored in double figures as the No. 19-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team scored a season-high 83 points in an 83-57 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday evening at Kolf Sports Center.

Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) led all scorers with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting for UW-Stevens Point (11-3, 5-0 WIAC) and was joined in double figures by Alex Richard (Spring Green, WI/River Valley), Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) and Stephen Pelkofer (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall). Richard made all seven of his shots from the field on his way to 15 points, while Pelkofer and Ryf each added 14.

The Pointers shot 68.1 percent (32-for-47) in the game, the team's highest field-goal percentage since UWSP shot 69.0 percent (29-for-42) in an 82-62 home win over Hope on Nov. 23, 2013. UW-Stevens Point's 11 made three-pointers are the most by the team since UWSP made 13 threes in a 91-72 victory at UW-La Crosse on Jan. 25, 2014.

UW-Stevens Point made 13 of its first 18 shots and five of its first six three-pointers, while UW-Oshkosh made just three of its first 20 field-goal attempts. The Pointers, who never trailed in the game, took an 18-7 lead at the 11:01 mark of the first half and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Pelkofer made a pair of three-pointers in the first 3:40 of the game to get UWSP off to the quick start. The junior went 2-for-4 from behind the arc and is now 13-for-23 (56.5 percent) from behind the arc in the last five games.

The closest the Titans would get the rest of the way was 10 points at 31-21 with 1:58 left in the first half after the hosts went on a 6-0 run. However, Ritchay hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the half, sending UWSP to the break with a 40-25 lead.

The Pointers built a 21-point lead with just over 12 minutes remaining and led by no fewer than 18 points down the stretch. The 26-point win was the largest of the season for UW-Stevens Point.

Pelkofer shot 6-for-10 from the floor and added seven rebounds and four assists to his 14 points. Ryf shot 5-for-8 and handed out five assists. UWSP's starters scored 69 of the team's 83 points, as Jordan Lutz (Amherst, WI/Amherst) chipped in with eight points.

Alex Olson led UW-Oshkosh with 12 points, while AJ Mueller added 11. The Titans shot 43.2 percent from the field in the game.

UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse. Fans are encouraged to wear white as part of a White Out.
