Miceli scores 15, women's basketball downed by nationally-ranked Titans

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Allie Miceli (Marseilles, IL/Ottawa Township) scored a game-high 15 points but No. 24 UW-Oshkosh held the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team to a season-low 41 points, as the Titans won 53-41 on Saturday evening at the Kolf Sports Center.

The game was the 100th all-time meeting between the two teams, making the series the longest women's basketball rivalry in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). All seven starters scored between seven and 11 points for UW-Oshkosh (15-3, 7-2 WIAC), which gained a split of the regular-season meetings with UW-Stevens Point (9-9, 4-5 WIAC).

Miceli shot 7-for-11 from the field on her way to finishing two points shy of her career-high and one point off her season-high. The junior helped UWSP hold a 23-7 advantage in bench scoring in the game.

UW-Oshkosh raced out to leads of 8-2 and 19-6, as the hosts made their first seven shots from the field in the opening five-plus minutes. After trailing by as many as 14 in the first half, the Pointers cut the deficit to single digits on two occasions before a three-pointer by Ashley Neustifter gave the Titans a 12-point halftime lead with a three-pointer 1:19 before halftime.

UWO led by double digits for the duration of the second half, leading by between 11 and 17 points, before UWSP scored the game's final five points in the last 31 seconds. The Titans never trailed in the game.

Alex Richard and Marissa Selner each scored 11 points to lead the Titans. UW-Oshkosh's starters combined to make 16 of the team's 19 field goals and score 46 of UWO's 53 points.

Nine players scored in the game for UW-Stevens Point. In addition to Miceli's 15 points, Kaitlyn Jacobs (New Franken, WI/Green Bay Preble) added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.

UW-Oshkosh held UW-Stevens Point to 32.1-percent shooting in the game, while the hosts shot 44.2 percent. The Titans outscored the Pointers 13-3 at the free-throw line in the game, despite making just 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) attempts.

UWSP hosts UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at Berg Gym.
