Brodie nets winner in final minute as Pointers edge Falcons in top-10 battle

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn) scored the lone goal of the game with 43.1 seconds remaining in regulation to send the No. 5/7 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe No. 4/7 UW-River Falls on Friday night at K.B. Willett Arena.

After Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) saw his shot saved, Brodie followed up in front of the net for his fourth goal of the year for UW-Stevens Point (12-3-0, 3-0-0 WIAC). The goal came near the end of a UWSP power play and was assisted by Kalisz and Logan Lemirande (Janesville, WI), who earned his fifth point in four games this season.
 
Brodie's goal was the first game-winning goal of his UWSP career, as the Pointers fended off UW-River Falls (13-2-1, 2-1-0 WIAC) for the final 43.1 seconds. The Falcons pulled their goalie for the final 36 seconds but Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) stopped the only shot UWRF mustered with the extra skater.
 
With the win, UW-Stevens Point improved to 6-4-2 against UW-River Falls under coach Chris Brooks. The win also moves the Pointers to 4-1-0 against ranked teams this season and 11-5-1 against ranked opponents in the last two seasons.
 
Jaeger made 20 saves to record his third shutout of the season and the ninth of his UWSP career. The senior improved his record to 12-2-0 this season.
 
UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-River Falls 23-20 in the game. The Pointers had a 10-4 advantage in shots in the final period. Both teams hit the pipe once in the opening period.
 
Tanner Milliron made 22 saves in net for the Falcons and fell to 12-2-1 this season.
 
The Pointers and Falcons complete the weekend series on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
