ST. PAUL, Minn. – Hamline outscored the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team 3-2 in the third period to snap the Pointers' six-game winning streak by a 5-4 score in a non-conference matchup on Saturday night at Oscar Johnson Arena.
Box ScoreWith the score deadlocked at 2-2 after two periods, Hamline (5-4-4) and UW-Stevens Point (11-3) combined for five goals in the first 7:36 of the final period. The Pipers led 3-2 and 4-3 only for the Pointers to tie the score both times before Brandon Zurn scored the game-winning goal at 7:36 of the third.
After
Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton) tied the game at 2-2 at 5:39 of the second period from
Logan Lemirande (Janesville, WI) and
Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn), Hamline's Chad Hennum gave Hamline a 3-2 lead just 1:18 into the third period. The Pointers came right back on the team-best 11th goal of the season by
Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) 1:35 later.
Hamline reclaimed the lead 1:26 after Kalisz's goal on a goal by Kevin Novakovich but 2:05 later
Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton) leveled the score at 4-4. Henegar's goal at 6:24 of the third period was set up by
Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic).
UW-Stevens Point scored the game's first goal as
Drew Graves (Allen Park, MI/Allen Park ) tallied his first goal of the season from
Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) 2:11 into the game. Hamline responded with goals from Charlie Adams and Brandon Reinholz in the final 6:07 of the period to lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.
UWSP outshot HU 39-28 in the game, led by Ladd's seven shots. In his first collegiate start,
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) made 23 saves in the loss for UW-Stevens Point.
Erick Majerle made 30 saves in 46:24 for Hamline before being replaced by John Sellie-Hanson after UWSP's fourth goal. Sellie-Hanson earned the win by making five saves in relief.
Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play in the game.
The Pointers return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a series against No. 3 UW-River Falls at K.B. Willett Arena on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16.17. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. both nights.
