The Green Knights, who also won national titles in 2008, 2011, and 2012, finish the season with a 28-3-1 record. The Pointers close the season with a 22-6-2 mark, culminating in their first title game appearance since 1998.

After both teams hit the post in the first seven minutes, St. Norbert's Joe Perry opened the scoring with a wrap-around goal at 13:06 of the first period. Immediately off the ensuing faceoff, Erik Cooper redirected Blake Thompson's slap shot to increase the lead to 2-0 at 13:17. The 11-second gap between goals was the shortest in NCAA Division III Championship game history.

UW-Stevens Point had three power-play opportunities in the second period but were unable to capitalize and draw closer. The Pointers cut their deficit in half 89 seconds into the third period when Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) circled behind the net and found Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton) in front of the net for his 20th goal of the season. Sean Gammage (Wildwood, MO/) also earned an assist on Ladd's goal.

Four minutes after Ladd's goal, the Green Knights re-established a two-goal advantage by converting just after an expired power play with a goal by Marian Fiala from above the right circle at 14:31. With seven minutes remaining the Pointers, who outshot the Green Knights 10-7 in the third, had their best chance to draw closer but Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas)'s shot from the slot rang off the pipe.

National Player of the Year David Jacobson made nine of his 23 saves in the third period for St. Norbert. A night after a 45-save performance, Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) kept out 26 shots for UW-Stevens Point. The Green Knights outshot the Pointers 29-24.

Kalisz and Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn) were each named to the six-man All-Tournament team, along with Perry, Fiala, Jacobson and Shawn Hulshof of Oswego State. Kalisz had a goal and three assists in three NCAA Tournament games, while Brodie added a goal and an assist from defense.
