Box Score 1 STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Visiting UW-Eau Claire used a short-handed goal to win game two and went on to win the ensuing mini game 2-1 to defeat the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) playoffs on Saturday night at K.B. Willett Arena.

Joe Krause scored an unassisted short-handed goal for UW-Eau Claire (18-8-1) at 11:21 of the first period the second game of the semifinal series. The Blugolds then shutout UW-Stevens Point (20-5-2) the rest of the way, the first time the Pointers have been shut out this season, to force the decisive mini game.
The Blugolds then built a 2-0 lead in the mini game after goals by Ross Andersen and Patrick Moore. Andersen's goal was unassisted at 3:42. Moore scored on a 5-on-3 at 9:48 to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
With 43 seconds remaining in the mini game and UWSP needing two goals,
Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) scored after the Pointers pulled
Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) for the extra skater.
Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton) and
Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn) assisted Gibson's goal but UW-Stevens Point could not find a second goal.
Backup goalie Jay Deo made 37 combined saves in the second game and the mini game for UW-Eau Claire. Jaeger kept out 32 combined UWEC shots for the Pointers.
UW-Eau Claire advances to face UW-Superior, who won a series with UW-River Falls, in the WIAC championship game. UW-Stevens Point will wait to hear if it will have a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
