Ladd scored his 18th goal of his season on a wrap around with 2:26 remaining in overtime as UW-Stevens Point (18-3-2, 6-3-1 WIAC) defeated UW-Eau Claire (16-6-1, 5-4-1 WIAC) for the third time this season. The 18 wins are the most by a Pointers team since the 2001-02 season.

Ladd's goal came shortly after the Blugolds had a great chance to win the game but UWEC could not get the puck on the net with the goal wide open. UW-Eau Claire outshot UW-Stevens Point 31-26 in the game, including 3-1 in overtime, but Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) made 30 saves in the game.

The Pointers took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas)'s 11th goal of the season. At 9:15 of the opening period, Sharkey converted a chance in front of the net off assists from Ladd and Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison).

UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 12-8 in the opening period but the Blugolds turned that around in the second, outshooting the Pointers 16-6. UWEC tied the score in the second period on a power-play goal by Daniel Olszewski, who slotted in a rebound off his own shot.

While on the power play following a UWEC major penalty, UWSP had a pair of good chances to go ahead 2-1 early in the third period but UW-Eau Claire goalie Tyler Green kept out close-range shots from Kalisz and Sharkey as part of a 24-save performance.

The Blugolds had six shots on the power play and were 1-for-5. The Pointers took seven of their 26 shots with the man advantage but were 0-for-3.

UW-Stevens Point will host 11th-ranked UW-River Falls on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena with first place in the WIAC on the line. The Pointers are currently one point behind the Falcons (14-6-3, 7-3-0 WIAC).
