STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) netted the game-winning goal 2:58 into the third period to give the sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Eau Claire on Saturday night at Ice Hawks Arena.
Box Score Nejedlo scored for the third time this season, all game-winning goals, off an assist from
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) to complete the come-from-behind victory for UW-Stevens Point (8-2-1, 3-2-1 WIAC). UW-Eau Claire (1-9-1, 0-5-1 WIAC) had led 1-0 in the first period on a power-play goal by Sam Knutson.
The Pointers trailed 1-0 after one period of play but got level midway through the second period thanks to a goal by
Hannah Smith (Spokane, WA/East Valley). The senior scored her third of the season and the tying goal was assisted by
Meredith Ingbretson (Hayward, WI/Hayward) and
Rachel Reynard (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville).
UW-Stevens Point held a commanding 47-18 advantage in shots in the game, including 33-10 over the final two periods. Paige Turner made 45 saves in the loss, while
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) kept out 17 UWEC shots.
UW-Stevens Point play at Gustavus Adolphus in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 13. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. in Saint Peter, Minn.
