EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) and
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) had a goal and an assist each as the sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with UW-Eau Claire on Friday night at Hobbs Ice Center.
Box Score UW-Stevens Point (7-2-1, 2-2-1 WIAC) led 2-1 after a period but UW-Eau Claire (1-8-1, 0-4-1 WIAC) came back to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period. Biagini set up Lester for the game-tying goal at 13:54 of the final period but neither team was able to find a winner, despite UWSP holding an 11-3 edge in shots in overtime.
Biagini started the scoring at 12:29 of the first period, scoring for the seventh time this season off assists from Lester and
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac). Just 1:12 later, UW-Eau Claire tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Andi Husted.
Before the first period was up, UWSP reclaimed the lead on
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake)'s second goal of the season at 17:57. The freshman was set up by
Hannah Smith (Spokane, WA/East Valley).
Two goals by Paige Dale gave UWEC the 3-2 lead early in the third period. Dale scored her first of the night with 14 seconds left in the second period and then gave the Blugolds their first lead of the night on the power play at 3:07 of the third.
UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 40-26 in the game, led by Nejedlo's eight shots.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) made 23 saves for UWSP, while UWEC's Paige Turner kept out 37 shots.
The two teams play at Ice Hawks Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.
