Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) and
Jordan Lutz (Amherst, WI/Amherst) registered career highs in points as the No. 21-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team shot a season-best 52.6 percent from behind the arc in a 73-56 victory over host UW-Stout in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game on Wednesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Box Score UW-Stevens Point (6-2, 3-0 WIAC) shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from behind the arc in the first half to send the Pointers to the team's best three-point shooting percentage all season. The win was the 100th win in school history versus UW-Stout and the fifth win in the last six meetings.
Ryf shot 8-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-8 from behind the arc to lead the Pointers with career-high 21 points.
Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) added his third 20-plus point game this season, shooting 8-for-14 from the field. Lutz had a career-high 14 points off 6-for-9 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
Alex Richard (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) added 14 points off a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
UW-Stevens Point let by 13 at the half thanks to a 64.3 field goal percentage, behind eight first half three-point baskets. UW-Stout matched the Pointers shot for shot to start the second half until UW-Stevens Point closed out the second half on a 20-8 run.
UW-Stout led by two at 15:38 of the first half, but failed to hold onto that lead for long. UW-Stevens Point's largest lead was 22 at 4:03 of the second half.
UWSP held the advantage in points in the paint at 32-22. The Pointers scored 14 points off 12 Blue Devil turnovers.
Jarvis Ragland, the WIAC's leading scorer, shot 5-for-14 from the field and had 17 points. Ragland was 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
The last time UW-Stevens Point made at least 10 three-point baskets in a WIAC matchup was in a win at UW-La Crosse on Jan. 25, 2014, when the Pointers were 13-for-24 from beyond the arc.
This weekend, UW-Stevens Point travels to Appleton, Wis. to take on Lawrence University in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
