HOLLAND, Mich. –
Sean McGann (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) scored 17 points off the bench to lead five Pointers in double figures as the seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team picked up a 77-66 road victory at Hope College's DeVos Fieldhouse.
Box ScoreThe Pointers shot almost 54 percent from the floor in the game's opening half, building a 15-point lead with 6:52 remaining in the opening half. Hope chipped away at the UWSP lead down the stretch, but the Pointers held the nine-point advantage, 40-31, heading into the halftime break.
UWSP held a 24-14 edge on points in the paint in the opening stanza, scored 12 points off turnovers and tallied six fastbreak points.
In the second half, Hope kept the UWSP lead to single digits until an
Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) jumper with 11 minutes left made the Pointers lead double digits once again, 54-44.
The Pointers then used a 13-2 run to build a 21-point advantage with just over seven minutes remaining, 67-46.
The lead would stay at double digits from there, as the Pointers tallied the 11-point victory.
McGann added five rebounds to his 17-point evening while
Stephen Pelkofer (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) chipped in 16 points,
Alex Richard (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) had 14,
Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) 13 and Ryf had 11. Richard collected a team-best six rebounds and Pelkofer had four steals.
Jordan Denham led Hope with 14 points on five-of-seven shooting off the bench.
UW-Stevens Point (2-1) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when it hosts Edgewood College in a nonconference contest at Quandt Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
