SUPERIOR, Wis. –
Megan Menotti (Vernon Hills, IL/Chicago Mission) and
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) each tallied third period goals on Friday night to help the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat 10th-ranked UW-Superior 3-2 at Wessman Arena.
Box ScoreThe Yellowjackets scored the night's first goal at 6:15 of the opening period, when Karen Larson found the back of the net, shorthanded, taking the 1-0 lead.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) evened the score in the second, scoring on the power from Menotti and
Nicole Schaub (Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake).
The Yellowjackets regained the lead midway through the second stanza, as Larson scored her second of the contest to give Superior the 2-1 advantage.
In the third, the Pointers tied things up two minutes into the period when Menotti scored on the power play.
Lester put the Pointers in front for good with 6:27 remaining in the game, when she pushed past the game-winner off a
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) pass.
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) earned the win in net, tallying 37 saves on the evening. Superior's Kim Kobar suffered the loss, stopping 27 of the Pointers 30 shots on net.
The Pointers (6-1-0, 2-1-0 WIAC) and Yellowjackets (6-2-0, 2-1-0 WIAC) take to the ice at Wessman Arena Saturday afternoon for the final game of the weekend series.
