STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Sarah Meylor (Watertown, WI/Watertown) scored the only goal of the game to give the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team its first conference win of the season, a 1-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl.

Jillian Ross (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) played over the UW-Platteville (5-6, 1-3 WIAC) defense and rifled a shot over Mandy Taylor in the 34th minute. The win was the third straight for UW-Stevens Point (5-6, 1-1 WIAC).
Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) made five saves in net for the Pointers and picked up her first shutout of the season. UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Platteville 17-10 in the game and both team had five shots on net.
The Pointers had a chance to double their lead in the 64th minute when
Kelsey Schneider (Malone, WI/Fond du Lac) was put through on goal by
Emily Dietrich (Franklin, WI/Muskego) but backup goalkeeper Katie Rash stopped Schneider's breakaway.
UW-Platteville's best chance came with 12 minutes remaining but Churkey pushed Julie Divita's free kick over the top of the goal.
UW-Stevens Point plays its second game in as many days when it hosts Finlandia in a non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
