SUPERIOR, Wis. – Five different players scored as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team blanked UW-Superior 5-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match on Saturday at Yellowjacket Field.
Box Score UW-Stevens Point (7-7-1, 2-2-1 WIAC) got goals from
Sarah Meylor (Watertown, WI/Watertown) and
Mary-Kate Schiffer (Palatine, IL/William Fremd) in the first half and
Emily Dietrich (Franklin, WI/Muskego),
Delaney Boelter (Keshena, WI/Shawano Community) and
Abbie Ullrich (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) after the break. UWSP outshot UW-Superior (3-10-2, 0-5-0 WIAC) 36-4 in the game, including 25-1 in shots on goal.
Meylor opened the scoring with her team-best fifth goal of the season at the 15:04 mark of the first half, as she headed in a corner kick by
Sarah Vitale (River Falls, WI/River Falls). Schiffer doubled the Pointers' lead late in the first half with her first collegiate goal.
Dietrich made it 3-0 a little less than 20 minutes into the second half by smashing a left-footed shot into the net following a scramble in the box. Dietrich had a game-high seven shots, four of which were on goal.
Boelter scored the first goal of her collegiate career with just over 10 minutes remaining, before Ullrich closed the scoring at the 84:25 mark.
Morgan Voigt (Rhinelander, WI/Rhinelander) earned her fourth win in five starts this season and only had one save to make it 81:41 minutes in goal.
Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) was in goal for the final eight-plus minutes but did not face a shot.
UW-Superior's Bailey Henderson made 20 saves in the game but took the loss.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-River Falls in a WIAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Point Soccer Bowl.
