Blugolds top women's soccer behind three second-half goals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Three second-half goals by the Blugolds proved to be too much for the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team as host UW-Eau Claire earned the 4-0 victory over the Pointers in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action Saturday at Bollinger Field.

Box Score

The Blugolds clung to a 1-0 lead at the midway point of the game after Tara Dennehy goal scored her fourth goal of the season at the 7:25 mark.

In the second half, Eau Claire extended its lead to 2-0 two minutes into the half on a Caroline Henderson goal.

The Blugolds tacked on two more goals late, one from Sami Matuszak and another from Jocelyn Etten, to make the final 4-0.

Kristin Churkey tallied seven saves on the afternoon, while her counterpart Rachel Griffiths stopped all three of the Pointers shots on net.

The Pointers (6-7-0, 1-2-0 WIAC) return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when they host the Eagles of UW-La Crosse at the Point Soccer Bowl. Action kicks off at 3 p.m.
