Unbeaten streak snapped for men's hockey at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – A five-game unbeaten streak came to an end for the second-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team with a 2-1 loss at No. 13 UW-River Falls on Saturday night at Hunt Arena.

Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem)'s goal came with 52 seconds remaining in the second period, but the Pointers could not find a tying goal in the third, falling 2-1. Cornellier's goal was assisted by Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) and Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn).

Before Cornellier's goal, UW-River Falls built a 2-0 lead early in the second period following a goal by Christian George at 1:21. Jon Schreiner scored the opening goal for the Falcons, a power-play goal at 7:56 of the first period.

UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-River Falls 24-21 in the game, including 18-12 over the final two periods. Brodie had four shots for the second night in a row to lead UWSP. The Pointers were 0-for-3 on the power play in the game with two of the opportunities coming in the opening period.

Tanner Milliron made 23 saves in net for the Falcons and picked up the win. Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) made 15 of his 19 saves in the first two periods for UWSP.

UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Superior (6-9-2, 1-2-1 WIAC) next Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena. The Pointers are 2-4-2 against the Yellowjackets under Chris Brooks.
