Box Score Naperville, Ill. - The UW-Stevens Point football team took to the road for the first time in 2013, and the Pointers came up on the short end of a 27-7 result at North Central College, a team ranked No. 4 in the latest D3football.com poll.

The Stevens Point defense stymied North Central's running attack, holding the home team to just 41 yards on 28 carries, but it was the Cardinals' passing game that made the difference. NCC quarterback Spencer Stanek threw for more than 350 yards and four touchdowns.

Jake Luedtke (Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) led the purple and gold defensive effort with 11 tackles, while brothers Bo and
Cody Seibel (Kewaskum, WI/Kewaskum) each tallied eight.
Adam Vesterfelt (Janesville, WI/Parker) led the Pointers with 56 total yards as the Pointers rushed for more than 100 yards as a team.
Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton), who tallied five catches and 96 yards on the day, led UWSP's receiving corps.
Coach Journell's squad won the time of possession and ran more offensive plays, but came up with only one score on four chances in the red zone. Ultimately, the Pointers three interceptions proved costly, as the Cardinals scored touchdowns twice following UWSP drives that ended in turnovers.
"I thought our guys played hard and competed," said head coach
Tom Journell. "They proved to themselves we can compete with anybody in the nation."
With Saturday's loss, the Pointers fall to 2-1 on the season, with WIAC play awaiting next weekend when the Pointers host UW-River Falls at Goerke Park. It will be Homecoming Weekend for the Pointers, who kickoff against the Falcons at 2 p.m.
