LA CROSSE – Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) poured in 20 points to lead three Pointers in who scored in double figures but it was not enough as the UW-La Crosse men's basketball team got 32 points from Tony Mane to hand UW-Stevens Point an 88-76 loss Saturday evening in La Crosse.
Leading 16-13 in the first half, UW-La Crosse opened up a 13 point lead thanks to a 19-9 run and led by as many as 14 in the first half and took a 10 point lead, 43-33, into halftime.
In the second half, it was all La Crosse, as the Pointers would get no closer than eight down the stretch as the Eagles snapped an 18-game losing streak against UW-Stevens Point with the 12 point victory.
Moses added a team-high six assists and seven rebounds to go along with his 20 points while Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) added 11 off the bench. Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) added 10 to finish as the third Pointer scoring in double figures.
Mane finished the day 13-of-29 from the floor while teammate Trevor Stratton added 26 points and Andrew Haass added 13 for the Eagles.
The Pointers (21-4, 12-4 WIAC) secure the No. 2 seed in next week's WIAC tournament and will host an opponent yet-to-be-determined on Thursday at Bennett Court in Quandt Fieldhouse as the second act of a men's and women's doubleheader in Stevens Point.
