Senior Day Success For No. 6 Pointers

STEVENS POINT –On senior day it was junior Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) who shot 10 of 15 from the field and scored 22 points as sixth ranked UW-Stevens Point downed UW-River Falls 47-68 on Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse Saturday evening.

Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) got the Pointers got off to a booming start with a steal and dunk giving the Pointers a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back from there. The Pointers knocked down 15 shots from the field in the first half in route to a 37-20 lead at half time.

The Pointers managed to score 22 of their first half points in the paint and shot 46.9 percent from the field compared to the Falcons 30.4 percent. The Falcons only were able to manage 10 points in the paint for the first half.

In the second half the Pointers were able to push the lead to 27 points at two occasions and the closest the Blue Devils were able to get was 12 points.

The boards also belonged to the Pointers with a 42-24 edge with 14 of them coming on the offensive end of the floor. Hoelzel lead the team with nine rebounds and Hurd pulled down seven. Hoelzel also led the team with five assists on the night.

UW-Stevens Point (20-3, 11-3 WIAC) will travel to UW-Platteville on Wednesday, February 17th to take on the Pioneers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
