Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna) collected his fourth double-double of the season and
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac) poured in a game-best 30 points on Wednesday evening to help the sixth-ranked Pointer men's basketball team to its 20th straight victory over the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire by a final of 80-61.
The Pointers held the Blugolds to just eight field goals in the game's opening half, including 1-7 from beyond the three-point arc as UWSP jumped in front by 10 in the early goings, 16-6.
UW-Eau Claire cut the deficit to one midway through the opening half but the Pointers countered and a three-point basket by Moses as time ran out in the first half put the Pointers in front by 12 at the half, 35-23.
In the second half it was all Pointers, as UW-Eau Claire cut the deficit to single digits early but the Pointers shot 53 percent from the floor in the second half, pushing the lead back into the double digits.
Down the stretch the Pointers led by almost 20 and led by 22, 80-58, with just under two minutes remaining before coasting to the 19 point win, 80-61.
Moses' 30 led all scorers as he finished 12-20 from the floor including 3-7 from three-point land. Hoelzel finished with 12 points and 11 boards while
Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee) finished as the third Pointer to score in double figures with 12.
Colin Boone led the Blugolds with 14 points, netting five of his points at the charity stripe. Geoff Probst and Amadou Fofana added 13 and 12 respectively.
No. 6 UW-Stevens Point (19-3, 10-3 WIAC) closes out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday when they play host to the Falcons of UW-River Falls. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. as the second act of a men's and women's doubleheader.
