STEVENS POINT - UW-Superior's Jasmine Pollack tallied two second period goals to lead the Yellowjackets to a 2-1 victory over the Pointers in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) women's hockey action Friday evening. The win pulls the Yellowjackets even with the Pointers in the NCHA standings, as both teams boast eight league victories.
After a scoreless first period Pollack tallied the Yellowjackets first goal at the 7:26 mark, unassisted, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Rachel Graves (Bemidji, Minn.) answered right back, scoring just 22 seconds later, scoring of a
Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) (Sherrard, Ill.) and
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn.) assist to knot the score at 1-1. Pollack tallied her second goal of the period at the 17:43 mark, breaking the tie and giving Superior the 2-1 advantage after two.
In the third, Yellowjacket keeper Melissa Kunzelman turned away all five of the Pointer shots including a late power play attempt to seal the 2-1 victory.
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) tallied 22 saves while Knuzelman notched 32.
Stevens Point (10-4-5, 8-4-3 NCHA) and Superior (12-6-2, 8-3-2 NCHA) return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena on Senior Day.
