MENOMONIE - The Pointers used 22 points from
Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) (Portage), including 15 in the first half, to defeat the Blue Devils of UW-Stout 73-69 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening.
With the score tied at 19-19 with 10:14 to go in the opening half, third-ranked UWSP 9-0 run to pull ahead by nine with just over 7:55 remaining. From there, the Pointers pushed their lead to 11 before taking a 41-33 lead into halftime.
The Pointers opened the second half on an 18-9 run and pushed the lead 17, 59-42, with 13:48 remaining and turned on the cruise control from there, taking a 19-point lead with just over four minutes remaining to secure nine-point victory.
Hurd added a team-high seven rebounds to his 22-point effort and also chipped in four assists.
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) (Fond du Lac) added 18 points and
Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (Milwaukee) added 10 in the Pointers tenth straight victory.
For Stout, Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Anoka, Minn.) led the way with 17 points and Eric Hostetter (Stillwater, Minn.) added 15.
No. 3 UW-Stevens Point (18-2, 11-0 WIAC) returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when the team plays host to UW-Superior for a 3 p.m. match-up at the Quandt Fieldhouse.
