LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Pointers completed a weekend sweep of Lake Forest as two third period goals led the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action Saturday afternoon.
The host Foresters got on the board first when Lynn Switaj scored her fifth goal of the season for Lake Forest off assists from Sam Herron and Jamie Sauer.
After a scoreless second period, the Pointers broke through as
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) tallied her 16th goal of the season at the 3:00 mark of the third off an assist by
Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, Ill.), knotting the game at 1-1. Late in the third period Rachel Graves (Bemidji, Minn.) found the back of the net, breaking the tie and scoring what proved to be the game winner, off a Nicole Grossman (Lindstrom, Minn.) pass.
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) tallied 21 saves in goal for her eighth win of the season while Forester goaltender Alyssa Wintermute turned away 34 Pointers shots in the loss.
The Pointers (13-4-5, 11-4-3 NCHA) returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 when they host No. 1 ranked Gustavus Adolphus at Ice Hawks Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
