LAKE FOREST, Ill. - UW-Stevens Point tallied two first period goals and one in the second, two of which were from Nicole Grossman (Lindstrom, Minn.), as the Pointers defeated the Foresters of Lake Forest 3-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) women's hockey action Friday evening.
Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn.) put the Pointers on the board on the 12:35 mark of the first period, scoring her seventh goal of the season off an
Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Lindstrom, Minn.) pass. Grossman tallied her first goal of the game at the 18:04 mark of the first, her 14th of the season, this time on the power play off a Rachel Graves (Bemidji, Minn.) assist, pushing the UWSP advantage to 2-0 after a period of play.
Grossman tallied here second goal of the game at the 13:23 mark of the second, her 15th of the season, this time unassisted, to cap the scoring for the Pointers.
In the third,
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) tallied nine of her 22 saves to seal the shutout victory for the Pointers.
The Pointers improves to 12-4-5 overall, 10-4-3 in NCHA play while Lake Forest falls to 10-11-2 overall, 6-8-1 in the NCHA.
The Pointers and Foresters return to action Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in Lake Forest.
