Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee) poured in 19 points and
Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna) added 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Pointer men's basketball team gutted out a 73-61 victory on the road at UW-River Falls to improve to 7-0 overall, 2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
Stevens Point opened the game with a 9-4 run to take a five point edge at the 13:49 mark before the Falcon offense began to click, going on a 19-6 run to open up an eight point advantage with 6:44 left in the opening half, 23-15.
The Pointers closed the gap as the half expired, taking a three point lead, 26-23 at halftime.
River falls cut the deficit to two with 17:21 remaining, closing the gap to 33-31. From there, the Pointers answered with a 15-5 run to open a 12 point edge with 11:47, 48-36 and never looked back, leading by as many as 14 as they cruised to the 12 point victory.
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac) added 12 points and four assists in the victory to round out a group of three Pointers in double figures.
River Falls' Jontae Koonkaew led the Falcons with 17 points in the loss.
The fifth-ranked Pointers return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 9 with another road test as they travel to UW-Whitewater for a WIAC tilt. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
