LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Pointers trailed for much of the game but used a 15-1 run in the second half to battle back from a 10 point halftime deficit on their way to a 75-57 nonconference victory over the V-Hawks of Viterbo University.
The Pointers led only once in the game's opening half, holding an 11-10 advantage at the 14:02 mark, thanks to a
Jerrel Harris (Whitefish Bay) three-pointer. Viterbo answered with a 16-5 run to open up their largest lead of the opening stanza with 5:54 remaining and held the Pointers at bay for the remainder of the opening half, holding a 10 point edge at the half.
In the second half, the Pointers used a 15-1 run to gain their first lead of the second half off a
Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee) jumper in the lane, and continued to pull away, as clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch allowed the Pointers to collect the 18 point victory.
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac) led the way with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting before fouling out. Harris added 14 points including four three-pointers off the bench and Jenkins added 12 including going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to round out the scorers in double figures. Jenkins also collected a team-high eight rebounds on the night.
Scott Buschman led all scorers with 22 points for the V-Hawks and collected a game-high 11 rebounds, six offensive.
Fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point (11-1) returns to action on Jan. 6 when they host the Titans of UW-Oshkosh in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action beginning at 8 p.m. in Quandt Fieldhouse on Bennett Court.
