STEVENS POINT -
Dan Tillema (Randolph) might need a massage after his performance on Saturday evening.
With the team suffering their first loss of the season Thursday at UW-Whitewater, the elder Tillema on the Pointer roster put the team on his back, pouring in 18 points and collecting 10 rebounds to help lead the Pointers to an 81-73 victory over Elmhurst College.
A back-and-forth game for the game's early minutes, the Pointers began to pull away midway through the opening half, building an 11 point lead just before halftime and took a nine point lead, 39-30, into the locker room.
In the second half, The Pointers led by as many as 13 but a pesky Bluejay team stayed withing single digits for much of the second stanza, but clutch free-throw shooting by
Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth), who collected 12 of his 18 points from the charity stripe, did the job as the Pointers closed out Elmhurst for the victory.
Louis Hurd (Portage) led the way for the Pointers pouring in a team-high 19 points and collecting five rebounds while
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac) added nine points and two assists in the win.
Elmhurst's Mike McCurdy led all scorers with 23 points.
UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 19 when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College in another nonconference tilt at the Quandt Fieldhouse. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
