Pointers Soar Past Eagles

Box Score

MADISON – Louis Hurd (Portage) scored 20 points and Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna) added 16 as the Pointers improved to 5-0 on the season with a 75-51 non-conference victory over the Eagles of Edgewood College in men's basketball action Saturday evening at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

The Pointers opened the game on a 20-10 run and never trailed in the game, as they built a 16 point halftime lead, 40-24, in part to nine points off turnovers and a 20-10 edge in points in the paint.

In the second half, the Eagles cut the Pointer edge to four, 50-46 with 10:37 to go, but a 25-5 run by the Pointers to close out the game proved to be the difference, as UWSP went on to the 75-51 victory.

Hurd added six rebounds to his 20 point performance and Hoelzel chipped in a team-high 10 boards in the victory.

Andrew Cobb led the Eagles with 13 points off the bench and Tony Cates chipped in 11 rebounds for Edgewood in the loss.

The Pointers open conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when they host UW-Stout at Bennett Court in Quandt Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
