Pointers Cut Down Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. - Jerrel Harris (Whitefish Bay) again led the way for the Pointers, recording 16 points after receiving the starting nod while Louis Hurd (Portage) added 12 and Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna) added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds as the tenth-ranked Pointers defeated 18th ranked Puget Sound 70-55.

Three ties and seven lead changes in the first half led to a back-and-forth battle in the game's first 20 minutes. The Pointers shot over 60 percent in the game's opening half and held Puget Sound to 32.3 percent from the floor.

A pair of Nick Krull (Marshall) free throws at the 2:13 mark tied the score at 29 apiece and on the next Pointer possession Harris knocked down a jumper in the lane to give UWSP the lead for good, as the Pointers built a five point edge at the break, 36-31.

In the second half, the Loggers cut the deficit to one, 41-40, with 16:21 to go, but the Pointers went on a 14-3 run to open up a 12 point lead and never looked back, building their largest lead of 15 by game's end.

Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee) finished as the only other Pointer to score in double figures, adding 10 points and five rebounds in his first significant action since finishing his his season with the Pointer football team.  Moses and Hurd also received all-tournament honors for their efforts in two wins against preseason ranked opponents on the weekend. 

The Pointers return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 25 when they host Lawrence University at the newly renovated Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
