Four Pointers Score Two Each in Victory

Box Score

STEVENS POINT – Four Pointers tallied two goals each as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team shook off the rust of more than one month of not playing, scoring 10 unanswered goals to defeat the Falcons of Concordia (Wis.) 10-1.

Concordia got on the board early, taking advantage a Pointer team that last played on Dec. 7, scoring just 3:53 into the game. Sarah Luberda (De Pere) notched the unassisted goal to give the visiting Falcons the early 1-0 edge.

The Pointers answered, as Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) (St. Paul Park, Minn.) notched a power play goal just under three minutes later at the 6:26 mark, knotting the score at 1-1. Both defenses clamped down from there, as the first period ended at a 1-1 tie.

In the second, it was all Pointers, as Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, Ill.), Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn.) , Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn.), Sarah Phillips (Kelowna, B.C./St. George's School (RI)) (Kelowna, B.C.) and Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) all scored, giving the Pointers a 7-1 edge after two periods.

In the third, Marvin, Daggit and Sosnowski each notched their second goal of the game, giving the Pointers another three goals for the period, as they cruised to the 10-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory.

The Pointers (6-1-2) return to action on Saturday evening, Jan. 10, when they host the Foresters of Lake Forest at 7 p.m. Concordia falls to 2-9-3.
