Pointers Conquer Vikings

APPLETON - UW-Stevens Point extended its winning streak to seven games on Monday evening, holding the Vikings of Lawrence University to just 15 points in the first half as the Pointers cruised to a 80-39 victory in non-conference action.

The Pointers, ranked No. 10 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, held the host Vikings to just three points in the final 8:05 of the first half and took a 43-15 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, it was again all Pointers, as the defense held the Vikings to just 24 points as UWSP led by as many as 43, cruising to the 41 point victory.

Three players scored in double figures for the Pointers, as Christin Coles (Hustisford/Hustisford) (Hustisford), Myranda Hodgson (Green Bay/Bay Port) (Green Bay) and Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) each tallied 12 points. For Coles, that ties a career high while it sets a career high for Hodgson. Hodgson also led the team in rebounding, pulling in six boards, five offensive.

The Pointers (11-1) return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7 when they host UW-River Falls in WIAC action at the Berg Gym. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Lawrence falls to 0-9 on the season.
