Pointers Roll Over Titans 71-31

OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball defense held the Titans of UW-Oshkosh to their lowest point total in school history on Saturday afternoon, allowing just 31 points and scoring 71 of their own en route to a 40 point victory in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.

The Pointers poured in 34 first-half points and never trailed, with the game tied only once at 2-2 early in the half. The Pointer defense held the Titans to just six field goals in the first half, as the Titans shot just 37.5 percent from the floor.

In the second half, the Pointer defense continued to hold the Titans down, again allowing just six field goals on 23 attempts for a 26.1 percentage while UWSP shot a 57 percent in the second half, cruising to the 40 point victory.

Janelle Van Gomple (DeForest) led the way for the Pointers, scoring a team-high 19 points including five three pointers and added a team-high four assists while Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) was the only other player in double figures, adding 10 points. Cassie Bandow (Plover, WI/Pacelli) (Plover) led the way on the boards, pulling down six rebounds.

For Oshkosh, Amber Goljenboom led all scorers with 10 points before fouling out.

The 12th ranked Pointers (10-1, 3-0 WIAC) return to action on Monday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Appleton to face the Vikings of Lawrence University in a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up before returning to WIAC play on Jan. 7, playing host to UW-River Falls in Berg Gym.
