OSHKOSH - All five starters scored in double figures and the Pointers shot a blistering 59.6 percent from the floor to stay perfect in WIAC play, downing the Titans of UW-Oshkosh 74-65 on Saturday afternoon.
The fifth-ranked Pointers rebounded from their non-conference loss to Carroll and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Titans on Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to an eight point run in the first half, trailing by one (24-23) to take the lead for good.
In the second half, Oshkosh got as close as one, 33-32 with 18:55 left, but a layup and free throw from
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) (Fond du Lac) followed by a three-pointer by
Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (Milwaukee) gave the Pointers a five point lead as they would go on to the nine point victory.
Moses led the way for the Pointers with 17 points and added two assists in 31 minutes.
Pete Rortvedt (Minocqua/Lakeland) (Minocqua) added 12 points and six rebounds,
Bryan Beamish (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) 11 points and eight assists while
Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) (Portage) and El-Amin each added 10.
Matt Miller led the way for the Titans, scoring a game-high 19 points while D.J. Marsh added 17 and Dane SeckarAnderson added 16 points and a team high 11 rebounds.
UW-Stevens Point (9-3, 3-0 WIAC) returns to action Jan. 7 when they travel to UW-River Falls for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Falcons. UW-Oshkosh (7-6, 1-3 WIAC) next faces No. 1 ranked UW-Platteville on Jan. 7th in Platteville.
