Egner Nets 350th Win as Pointers Roll Falcons

RIVER FALLS - UW-Stevens Point head women's basketball coach Shirley Egner won her 350th career game as Pointer head coach on Wednesday evening and the Pointers set a new school record for consecutive victories at 14 with a 75-49 victory over the Falcons of UW-River Falls in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action.

The Pointers never trailed, opening the game on a 15-5 run and led by as many as 13 in the games early minutes as the Pointers kept the Falcons at bay and took a 10-point lead into halftime, 34-24.

River Falls (10-8, 3-6 WIAC) cut the deficit to seven (36-29) with 17:42 remaining in the second half, but the Pointers pulled away down the stretch as the defense held River Falls to just 35.3 percent shooting in the second half, 11 percent for the game from beyond the three-point line, as the Pointers cruised to the 26-point victory.

For the Pointers, Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) led the way with 14 points and added four assists. Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) chipped in with 13 points, Janell Van Gomple (DeForest/DeForest) (DeForest) added 11 and Jessi Sporle (Mineral Point/Mineral Point) (Mineral Point) and Ashley Baker (Vesper/Pittsville) (Vesper) each added 10 as all five starters scored in double figures. Sporle led the way with game-high 11 rebounds, collecting her second double-double of the season.

For River Falls, Myranda Dohm led the way with 11 points while Tiffany Gregorich and Jenna Hanson each tallied 10.

UW-Stevens Point (18-1, 10-0 WIAC) has the weekend off before returning to action on Feb. 4 when they host UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
