CEDARBURG, Wis. - The eighth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team improved their record to 9-2-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) hockey action on Friday night, defeating the Falcons of Concordia (Wis.) 6-0.

Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Lindstrom, Minn.) notched the game's first goal 35 seconds in off a Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, Ill.) assist as the Pointers jumped ahead 1-0.

The Pointers took advantage of an early penalty in the second period as Samantha Scheving (Warroad, MN/Warroad) (Warroad, Minn.) scored a power play goal, unassisted, at the 3:37 mark to start the scoring. Three more Pointers goals ensued, as Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn.), Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) and Grossmann each tallied goals in the second period, extending the Pointer lead to 5-0 after the second.

In the third, Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) (Sherrard, Ill.) scored unassisted at the 14:45 mark to give the Pointers their 6-0 victory.

d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) registered the win in net, recording 10 saves in just over 29 minutes of work while Cassi Carpenter (Forest Lake, MN/Centennial) (Forest Lake, Minn.) logged 30 minutes in goal and had a team-high 12 saves. Concordia keeper Krista Taum tallied 46 saves in goal for the Falcons in the loss.

The Pointers and Falcons will face off again tomorrow afternoon, Jan. 24 at the Ozaukee Ice Rink. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
