SUPERIOR – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon coasting to a 74-36 victory over the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior. The Pointers now improve their win streak to 11 in a row and stay perfect in conference play, improving to 7-0.
The Pointers shot a blistering 65.4 percent from the floor in the game's opening half and the defense held Superior to just eight field goals, as the Pointers opened the game on a 10-0 run en route to a 41-19 halftime lead.
In the second half, Superior cut the deficit to 18 points at the 15:39 mark, 42-24, but the Pointers used a 20-2 run to jump ahead by 36 as they went on to the 38-point victory.
UW-Stevens Point got 36 points from their bench in the victory and forced 21 Superior turnovers, turning them into 21 points.
Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) scored a team-high 17 while
Christin Coles (Hustisford/Hustisford) (Hustisford) scored 14 points for the Pointers off the bench and
Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) added 11.
Myranda Hodgson (Green Bay/Bay Port) (Green Bay) collected a team-high eight rebounds and
Janell Van Gomple (DeForest/DeForest) (DeForest) added five steals.
Kaitlyn Houser was the only Yellowjacket to score in double-figures, pouring in 11 points in the loss.
UW-Stevens Point improves to 15-1 overall, 7-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play while UW-Superior falls to 4-11, 0-7 in WIAC play. The Pointers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they host UW-Eau Claire in a showdown of two 15-1 teams. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
