SUPERIOR – UW-Stevens Point got a season-high 23 points from senior
Pete Rortvedt (Minocqua/Lakeland) (Minocqua), who connected on seven three-pointers, as the Pointer men's basketball team rolled to a 104-60 victory over the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior on Saturday afternoon.
The Pointers opened the game on a 21-9 run and continued to add to their advantage from there, building a 26-point advantage at the halftime break. The Pointers shot a blistering 67.7 percent from the floor in the first half, including 10-of-17 from beyond the three-point arc.
UWSP opened the second on another run, this time 18-6, building a 38-point advantage in the first six minutes of the final half. From there, UWSP continued to cruise, building a 46-point advantage with 2:20 left, going on for the 44 point victory.
The 104 points by UWSP is a season high. The last time the Pointers broke the century mark in a game was the start of the 2007-08 season, a 105-72 defeat of Carroll University.
Rortvedt added a team-high six rebounds on the night for the Pointers while
Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (Milwaukee) added 18 points and four assists,
Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) (Portage) tallied 14 points and
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) (Fond du Lac) added 12 in the victory.
Ray Byrns led Superior with 18 points on the evening, leading four scorers in double figures.
The fourth-ranked Pointers (13-2, 7-0 WIAC) stay perfect in conference play and return put their unbeaten streak on the line Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Blugold.
