Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) tallied a game-high 23-points and the Pointers held UW-Platteville to just 17.8 percent shooting as UW-Stevens Point notched a lopsided victory over the Pioneers 75-46 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The 10th-ranked pointers jumped out to the early lead, 18-1, as the Pioneers missed their first 10 shots from the field. The Pointers continued to roll, posting a 30-14 lead at the break.
In the second, Platteville cut the deficit to 12, 34-22, with 15:13 remaining, but the Pointers scored the next eight points to increase their lead back to 20. From there, the Pointers put the game away, cruising to the 29-point victory.
Petersen added six rebounds, four assists and two blocks to her 23-point effort for the Pointers while
Janell Van Gomple (DeForest/DeForest) (DeForest) added 11 and
Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) added 10 in the victory.
For Platteville, Lisa Grantman scored a team-high 11-points while Ashley Callahan added 10, all from the free-throw line, in the loss.
The Pointers improve to 13-1 overall and stay perfect in the WIAC, improving to 5-0. The team also extends their season-best winning streak to nine. They will next be in action on Jan. 14 when they travel to UW-Stout for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Blue Devils in Menomonie.
